Amidst A New Chapter for Enterprise Marketplace Growth, Gartner Releases a New Market Guide

Industry research firm Gartner, Inc. recently released their first “Market Guide for Marketplace Operations Applications” (MOAs) that power Enterprise Marketplaces. Enterprise Marketplaces are the model driving growth for some of the internet’s largest eCommerce brands across industries spanning B2C to B2B, from grocery retailers to wholesale industrial suppliers. Enterprise Marketplaces have seen huge acceleration in 2020 as digitalization plans were pulled forward. According to the report, “Gartner inquiries on enterprise marketplaces increased almost 100% between 2019 and 2020.”[1]

In short, the category is on fire. Gartner’s newest report “Market Guide for Marketplace Operation Applications” names Mirakl as a Representative Vendor in the space. Mirakl is proud of this recognition from Gartner’s experts in the space — and we consider it just the beginning of the impact we can make on eCommerce and the global economy that increasingly depends on it.

The report notes, “The enterprise marketplace business model was growing in popularity even prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and growth continued in 2020 as many companies increased their investment in digital commerce technologies. For many Gartner clients, adopting a marketplace model was initially on their roadmap for 2021 or beyond, but they pulled those plans forward in 2020 when their existing business models were disrupted due to COVID-19.”

Mirakl has successfully positioned itself as an imperative for this next step in B2B digitization. Over 300 leading companies work with Mirakl to launch and scale their enterprise marketplaces, making Mirakl the world’s most widely adopted enterprise marketplace vendor. Currently experiencing tremendous growth globally with a wide geographic commercial presence, top-tier enterprise client base, and robust and growing set of capabilities, Mirakl recently announced a 110% increase in gross merchandise value and over $3.1 billion transacted on the company’s B2B and B2C Marketplace Platforms in 2020. In addition to recognition in Gartner’s Market Guide for Marketplace Operations Applications, the World Economic Forum in 2020 named Mirakl as a Technology Pioneer for the company’s “contributions to the digitization of businesses as they prepare to survive and thrive through the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

We’re proud of our business momentum, and it’s an honor to see a category Mirakl pioneered evolve into this first MOA market guide. In a world where platforms have become the new competitive advantage in eCommerce, the demand for sophisticated, efficient and high-value marketplaces will only continue to increase. Recognition in this report is another stepping stone in our mission to help companies gain speed, scale and agility to win in this increasingly competitive landscape - with our customers at the forefront.
