Brussels/Paris, 13 September 2022 - Mirakl, the industry’s first and most advanced enterprise marketplace SaaS platform, today announced it has joined two European organizations to play a bigger role in influencing the rapidly-evolving European regulatory environment that is significantly impacting online marketplaces and the sellers on those platforms. By doing so, Mirakl aims to contribute to public debate on the tech economy, as well as playing a crucial role in reinforcing the influence of the European tech ecosystem.

Already active in France within organizations such as France Digitale, representing entrepreneurs and investors, and FEVAD, the French eCommerce federation, Mirakl contributes positively to public debates on the digital economy by bringing its expertise and knowledge of online marketplaces. By joining Ecommerce Europe and the European Tech Alliance (EUTA), Mirakl is positioning itself as a key thought leader for European institutions and wishes to contribute positively to debates on the regulation of the digital economy, which are impacting Mirakl and the 300+ marketplaces that the company powers through its SaaS solution.

True to its vision of a digital world not monopolized by tech giants, Mirakl will focus on the implementation of the Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as the ongoing development  of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) and the revision of the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR).

Hugo Weber, Public Affairs Director at Mirakl, said : “At a time when many European regulations have a strong impact on the implementation and use of new technologies, joining the European Tech Alliance and Ecommerce Europe will be key to contributing positively to the public debates on the digital economy. Mirakl will be supporting the two organizations by providing its expertise and knowledge of online marketplaces and looks forward to working with other members to strengthen the impact of the European tech ecosystem.”

Luca Cassetti, Secretary General of Ecommerce Europe, commented: “We are very happy to welcome Mirakl among Ecommerce Europe’s business partners. Mirakl will bring to Ecommerce Europe key insights on the world of online marketplace software in a context where retailers are increasingly diversifying their sales channels to best serve their customers. With the participation of Mirakl in our EU public affairs activities, we will be able to benefit from our mutual knowledge and further advance the interests of the European digital commerce sector.”

Victoria de Posson, Secretary General of the European Tech Alliance said : “We are very excited to welcome another European success story as a member of the European Tech Alliance. With its expertise, Mirakl will contribute to EUTA's efforts to explain how it seizes digital opportunities across the EU and overcomes the challenges to grow. EUTA aims to support smart policies promoting European tech innovation, investments and competitiveness. It is important to create the right regulatory conditions which both enable European tech champions to grow and empower consumers.”

Note to editors

Today, online platforms play a central role in the economy and in the daily lives of so many European citizens. We are ordering food, booking doctor appointments, hotel rooms and taxi rides through platforms. While many of these online platforms are operated by global tech giants headquartered overseas, more recently a powerful new model has arisen - born in Europe - focused on online enterprise marketplaces. A diverse array of companies across industries are launching enterprise marketplaces with high-quality, often local, third-party sellers for the benefit of European customers.

Enterprise marketplaces grew by more than 80 percent year-over-year in the fourth quarter of 2020 and 2021. The marketplace model generates value for an entire ecosystem: operators, partners, and third-party sellers, while empowering thousands of small European businesses to not only survive during the pandemic, but compete more effectively in its wake.

Mirakl provides the technology, expertise and ecosystem to 300+ retailers and B2B players in more than 40 countries to launch, operate and scale a marketplace. We are also empowering 50,000 small and medium enterprises selling on Mirakl-powered marketplaces. In Europe, 95% of the third-party sellers on mirakl-powered marketplaces are themselves europeans.
