The eCommerce opportunity has never been clearer than in 2020. But with fragmented supply chains, dramatic shifts in buyer behavior, and unprecedented acceleration of demand, the conventional pipeline model alone can’t deliver what customers need. A growing number of retailers are rising to the challenge with the platform model, bringing more agility, flexibility, and scale into their businesses.

At the virtual Platform Pioneer Summit by Mirakl, some of the world’s largest retailers will take the stage to share how they’re using the power of platforms to transform their businesses and reimagine eCommerce to capture growing demand online.

With just a few days to go until the Summit on September 9, we’re taking a minute to share a sneak peek from some of the Platform Pioneers who will be sharing their journeys.

Carrefour Brazil: four years in, the keys to marketplace success

2020 has introduced an entirely new set of challenges to retailers, whether they’re large or small, regional or global. As one of the largest retailers in the world, Carrefour Group met the challenge head-on. In Brazil, Carrefour’s second-largest market, its online marketplace was a critical tool that enabled the retailer to respond to fast-rising demand for eCommerce as stores were temporarily shuttered. Carrefour Brazil’s online marketplace GMV grew by nearly 160% in Q2 2020, double the overall growth rate of the major hypermarket chain’s eCommerce business.

That growth was no accident – it’s the product of years of planning and strategic investment by the Carrefour Brazil team. At the Platform Pioneer Summit, Jose Nilson Ferreira, Marketplace Director at Carrefour Brazil, will join us to reflect on what he has learned from Carrefour’s first years operating its marketplace and discuss the next phase of growth for the retailer.

Worten: leveraging marketplace to drive a better omnichannel experience

Worten leads the market in technology, household electrical appliances, consumables and entertainment in Portugal, with nearly 200 stores in the country and another 40 in Spain. With the launch of its marketplace in 2018, Worten set itself on a path towards true digital transformation. Two years later, the electronics retailer is already proving the power of the platform model.

Worten now operates the highest-performing and most-visited eCommerce site in Portugal – and the retailer’s ambition keeps growing. In addition to integrating more than 2 million marketplace offers into its online channels, Worten is leveraging its marketplace to deliver more to its customers in-store. At the Summit, Pedro Devesa, Head of Digital Business at Worten, will give attendees a glimpse into the ways that Worten’s transformation from electronics retailer to marketplace is driving growth and customer satisfaction.

The Kroger Co.: an industry giant at the forefront of the online grocery revolution

The grocery industry is one of 2020’s biggest eCommerce winners. In June of this year, a record 45.6 million U.S. households used online grocery pickup and delivery options, and online grocery buyers have grown by 30% globally since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the United States’ largest grocery retailer, The Kroger Co. is at the forefront of that growth, with its digital sales increasing by 92% in the first part of the year. And beginning this fall, Kroger’s Mirakl-powered Marketplace will be a critical pillar to support the increased demand for online grocery, creating a true endless aisle online. Jody Kalmbach, Group Vice President, Product Experience at The Kroger Co., is taking the (virtual) stage to share how Kroger will use the marketplace to strengthen its digital offers – and how the #1 grocer in the United States built the internal consensus to bring its marketplace from vision to reality.
