2005

Early validation

In 2005, Mirakl’s founders were reflecting on the evolution of retail and the disruption brought on by eCommerce. The transformation was particularly evident in video games retail, where customers had a strong demand for anything, anytime, anywhere. Out of this conversation, Mirakl’s founders decided to form SplitGames, an online marketplace that would provide a one-stop shop for gamers—putting their hypothesis to the test.

2008

Fnac acquisition

SplitGames took off rapidly, leading to a 2008 acquisition by Fnac, a $5B iconic French retailer who wanted to create their own marketplace to compete against Amazon. Over three years, Mirakl’s founders grew the platform to fuel massive assortment expansion, the successful launch of adjacent categories, and double-digit profitability growth.

2012

Founding Mirakl

As Mirakl’s founders reflected on the ups and downs of the last six years, they saw the opportunity and growth that was possible with the marketplace model. Their experience showed the staggering costs and ongoing investment of building and maintaining one in-house. They decided to take their unique expertise built at SplitGames and formed Mirakl to give every business the opportunity to launch and operate their own winning marketplace, at scale.
